Having spent time on a rifle range, I know first hand the horror of having sone trying to kill me with a gun. Ever since, I have held no glamour for weapons of personal destruction.
Guns were invented to kill people. Guns kill people extremely efficiently. Those fools who "say guns don't kill, people do" are, if not idiots, have no idea of the deadliness and the trail heartache the history of fir
earms has left in its wake.
I just wonder what might have happened if Martin Bryant had had no access to the weapons he used. A lot of much happier people would be celebrating this season.
And now, there are too many more parents, once again, unable to share this Christmas with their little ones who were bereft of safety and security. May the people who are now suffering the worst heartache a parent can feel, find the strength to survive each second, then perhaps each minute, for the pain and anguish of the loss of one's child is the ultimate in inexplicable despair. The dreams and hopes, the little lives just beginning, now extinguished, can never be explained with intellect, let alone platitude.
And yes, as this tragedy has taken place, the feelings some 33 years old seem as fresh as the day my dear sweet 8 year old Adam was taken from me. Knowing that this is the life those parents will endure saddens me deeply as I know one never gets over losing a child, you just know you just carry it with you, suffer the pain and wish that it never happens to another Mummy and Daddy.
